Century Cinema

The Century Cinema opened its doors on 25 July 1936. Located at 129 Pier Ave, Clacton-on-Sea CO15 1NJ. It was renamed Essoldo in 1946. In 1967, it was converted to a cine-bingo hall. It was renamed Essoldo in 1946

In 1936, the Century Cinema Clacton-on-Saa opened as a movie house, but in 1946, it was taken over by the Essoldo cinema chain and renamed the Essoldo. The original organ from the cinema was moved to the nearby United Reform Church. It closed in 1967. The cinema was reopened in 1968 by Classic Cinemas. The cinema was extended forward by one floor, and a second screen was added to the cafe/ballroom area.

It was converted for cine-bingo in 1967

The Century Cinema in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex was converted into a cine-bingo centre in 1967. Originally, it housed a cinema with 1,743 seats, and was home to a cafe and ballroom. It was closed in 1984 and replaced by shops and flats. Its history can be traced back to 1936 when it was built by Clacton architect G.H.B. Gould.

It re-opened on 21st June 2013

The Century Cinema in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex re-opened on 21st June 2013. The former Flicks 1 & 2 closed on the 3rd November 2012 and Gala Bingo continued in its former stalls. Picturedrome Electric Theatre Company took over the lease and spent more than PS100,000 to improve the auditoriums and install modern digital technology.

It has gone through many changes

The Century Cinema Clacton-on-Sear in the United Kingdom has undergone a PS500,000 makeover since it first opened in 1936. It closed for two months and is now equipped with plush leather seats. The seating capacity for screen one has been reduced to 430, and there are now tiered seats to allow for better sightlines. The screen itself has also been increased.
